recently my husband recieved a settlement offer from an attorney representing cc i sent a letter accepting the offer under two conditions 1. validation 2. complete deletion. 3 weeks later recieved a letter fm attorney stating their files had been closed at creditors request. would no longer be representing them. from what i have read, oc do not have to validate correct? i believe it was one of those "secured" cards where the deposit is to be charged to the card BUT he NEVER used the card. now they are saying he owes $1100.00. the att. offered $700.00 settlement which we would have been glad to pay to get it off of his credit. his scores are in the 400's. what do i do now also, he has 6 judgements i disputed, they were all verified today w/ ex how do i get them off?

I don't know about the CA, but this is what I did w/ my judgements.

I went to the courthouse and got copies. I had one tax lien, and one civil judgement. The lien showed up twice, the paid and unpaid both had their own numbers.

I was lucky, because TU and EQ didn't have all of my information showing, one didn't have my married name, one didn't show my old address. So, on EXP I called and had my old address deleted. THEN I disputed. I have one showing on one report, all others were deleted in the first round. Not bad!!

What may be happening with the CA situation is that the OC took the account back and will wait awhile and either sell it or farm it to another collection agency. It doesn't sound like the attorney that contacted you owned the debt so therefore the OC can easily take it back. I had a credit card account sold to a collection agency and when I requested validation from them, they sent me a letter saying they were closing the account until they could contact the OC for validation. This may also be a possible explaination for your case. I believe you can ask for proof from the OC that you owe the debt but get some other people's opinions on that first.
