I have a collection from my university that a law firm is collecting own but doesn't own. The amount is 1200.00 with a charge of 300.00 for the collection agency. What procedure should I take in paying the university and getting this off my credit report? Seems like there is a way to pay the uniersity and cut off all payments to the law firm which would allow me to remove it.
Thats "LAW firm" is an agency with an attorney that is hired by them, check to see any information on them in the phone book or web stating so. You can send them a validation letter too. They are bound by FDCPA just like any other collection agency.
