CA is reporting more than they're asking for

Maybe I should be glad they're not asking for more, but the CA is asking for $7,000 (well, we're negotiating a settlement so they're asking for $4000 so far) and reporting $9,500 to the CRAs.

    Is this legal?

They are probably reporting the full balance on the account correct?

No, according to their correspondence with me, they say the full balance is $7K. They're reporting the higher figure to the CRAs.

Ask why they are reporting such a large balance. Dispute with the credit reports if it's not the actual balance.

Send a debt validation letter to them. Disputing with the credit reporting agencies won't work as they will just verify. Put the ball in the court of the "bottom feeding", "scum sucking" CA's and JDB's. Don't talk to these idiots in the CA's and JDB's.
