I found out a collection agency listed on all three CRA reports was not bonded to collect in Texas. Sent letter on Jan 10 and got response back yesterday. The CA "no longer handles my account" and "any negative reference on my credit report as a result of this account has been ordered removed." Woohoo!
Now make sure they follow up on the letter. I have one of those that said they would remove an item and as of yet haven't.
Txstep..Good job! I was wondering if you mailed a validation letter or a regular letter stating that they were not bonded. I sent Lizardking's validation letter which, on the bottom, it states to list the bonding agent which I think is suffice, but I'm not quite sure if I should have let them know that I know that they are not bonded.
I based my letter off of this one posted by Killer. " I recently became aware that your company has made an entry into my credit reports stating I owe a debt. I was totally shocked because I don't recall incurring this debt. To be sure that this was not some sort of hoax, I contacted the Texas Consumer Credit Commission and was told that your company isn't listed as a bonded and permitted to collect debts in Texas. They suggested I file a complaint but I did not since this is some sort of mistake. Please correct this mistake by having the listing removed from any all credit reporting agencies. I greatly appreciate your assistance."
I am located in TX. The collection agency is in CA. Professional Recovery Systems. Apparently not too technologically sophisticated...the letter was printed with a dot matrix...LOL
