I have a CA calling about an account I have no record of. I checked all three credit bureaus and nothing is showing up on the reports either. It is a credit card company of which I did have two accounts, but both were paid and neither match the account # this place is giving me. The CA is telling me that the card was opened in 1998 (which is the time the other two were opened) and that the last date paid was Dec. 1999. As far as I could tell via the internet this should have run out (if it were in fact legitimate, which I am having a hard time swallowing) in Dec. of this year anyway. I am in CT, so it says 6 years. Is there a letter or something I could send this place? They don't accept that this is bogus.

    Thanks

I've had Junk Debt Buyers purchase an account and re-sell it later and they never showed on my Credit Report. A possibility is that they are giving you their reference number or file number rather than the original account number. You could send them a DV letter and if they respond their response should contain the Original Creditor and the account number and if there is a mistake you will have it on paper for later solutions.

It's past the SOL so they don't have a case either way.

"They don't accept that this is bogus."

They would rather get money whether it is bogus or not. They know if you haven't disputed in writing, they don't have to do anything.

Have they sent you their demands in writing? Did their letter include your right to dispute, and that if you didn't dispute within 30 days, they would assume the debt was valid?

Since your records show your accounts paid and closed, have you tried calling the OC, and checking if they show any existing, or defaulted accounts, in your name?
