You'll have to excuse if this has been posted already, but I am attempting to pay off a debt with a CA that is legitimate. Because I am in the process of obtaining a mortgage it is important that I pay them as quickly as possible. I contacted the CA yesterday to see if they would send a letter verifying that the account has been "Paid in Full" if I make a payment. The CA let me know that they would send a letter stating that the payment is pending, and a "Paid in Full" letter would be sent 90 days after the payment. They also said that they would continue to report the debt to the CRA's as active until the 90 days were up.

What are my remedies here? I need to pay the debt, and can I use my bank statement or canceled check to prove that the payment has been made as a basis for disputing the account? I know that the mortgage company will accept this proof, but I would also like and need to get this cleared from my credit report. Is this some violation of the FCRA? Is the nutcase series applicable here?
