ment. Is there any legal action I can take?

A certain Todd Bremer and ... accessed it on 7/25/01 but I was no aware of this. They are trying to collect on an account left from college. Which last activity was 6/2001. Is there any legal recourse or a letter I can send to them. The amount is $512. How do I start the validation process as well as the credit report look up?

    Thanks for your time!

If they own the account, they can look up your credit report.

You can dispute the account by writing a letter to the CRA's. There are some dispute letters on this site that you can use.

    Thank you.

All my collections ARE verifiable. I was wondering if just paying them is the way to go. Anyone I have spoken to says a paid collection is better than an outstanding debt. Everyone but people on the internet... What to do? The collection agencies are within the last two years for college type utilities and such... What options do I really have?
They are my debts. No questions asked... I feel I should pay what I owe... why is do I find this the moral act to follow yet at the same time tread on the idea that it might further injure my 526 score....

    Re: Thank you.

Because it may injure your score later by making the debts harder to dispute off your reports. paying the debts give you no leverage. Each person has to make their own morality decision and that's totally up to you.

My advice - request validation and if they validate, offer payment in exchange for deletion.

Who told you a paid collection is better? Probably someone on the side of the CRAs. On paper, it looks better but from a scoring standpoint, it is negligible.
