When I first dealt with them they had 2 accounts of mine a returned check for $65 which has fallen off my reports and this $200 account.

They refused to settle, and refused to remove either item from my reports. I didn't know any better and just paid them because they said a paid collection was better than an open one. They were very obnoxious about it, saying it was ILLEGAL to remove the tradeline.

I'd also be interested what you find out about this. I'm getting ready to deal with JJ Marshal myself over an $86 returned check from 3 years ago.

DID THEY SHOW YOU THE ORIGINAL CHECK TO PROVE THIS?

I'm confused about something. If you just want proof of the delivery, why are you bothering with all of this?

Why wouldn't you just go to the USPS website and enter the certified mail tracking number, which will immediately provide results/proof as to if and when this letter was delivered.

Or is there more to this than I understood?

    Good luck!

The USPS website tells you it was delivered and the date. The return card adds who signed for it.

I realize that (in theory) - but if he is jumping through hoops just to determine whether or not the letter was received and to obtain proof, then it's a moot point based on the USPS tracking capability.

Further, I've send hundreds of certified/RR letters out and I've never received one by way of certified delivery on the way back. In short, I think he can be assured the letter sitting at the post office is not one that he should be worried he missed - and as far as leveraging proof of delivery, he can use the USPS website.

One final note. I say "in theory" above because not only is it infrequent that any signature is legible, but in the case of CRA's and CA's, they are usually received at boxes and the CRR's are merely stamped generically.

I haven't sent that many but all of the green cards came back signed and the names were legible.

The last one I had to send the intent to sue letter and in it I enjoyed the ability to say Jane S received the letter on April 12th.

To me it had a bigger impact than just a generic, someone received it on April 12th.

I wasn't jumping through hoops to see if my CRRR was received, but rather wondering what in the world they were sending me CRRR and if I should go pick it up.

I am going to send the 15 day validation request noting I have received no response and can use the USPS data in it.
