I recently disputed the "late payment history" of an account on my experian credit report which was re-investigated and changed from a charge-off to a Paid charge-off. My Equifax and Trans U reports show status as "Open Account 120+ Past Due" on collection accounts on this Paid Charge-Off Account. Can CA report a collection account on an original creditor account that is listed as Paid Charge-Off? Any help would be appreciated. T
Let me break this down: Experian (original cr acct): Paid charge-off. Transunion (CA acct): Open Acct 120+ Past Due Equifax (CA acct): Open Account 120+ Past Due The original creditor considered it paid when the collection agency bought the account from them. When is the 'date opened' for the CA account?
Response to Love, Broken down: Experian (original cr acct)Bank First paid charge-off, last reported 3/01 Equifax (Duplicate CA Listing) (CA) Marlin Integrated (NCO) Status is "open 120+ days past due", no date is shown under "date opened" (CA) Medclr (NCO) Status is "open 120+ days past due", no date is shown under "date opened" Trans Union (CA) Marlin Integrated (NCO) Status is "Coll/P&L" with a "date opened of 3/01. Yes, they "can". Lets say you pay a Collection Agency for an account that was charged off by the original creditor. The CA would update the listing to Paid Charge Off on the original creditors account. They can then report that listing for 7 years. That is not to say they "legally can" report it though, because of other reasons. More than likely the account will NOT be listed correctly (account#'s wrong, name's misspelled, wrong amount owed etc), so you CAN legitimately dispute the listing with the CRA as incorrect. Also you can (and should) send validation letters to the CA. After an account is paid it generally gets "shelved" and it becomes much more likely that they will NOT be able to validate (in fact you got a great shot) because they do not keep the necessary records. Then you can get the listing removed that way. Good Luck -Peace, Dave
Response to Dave, Thanks for the info Rave Dave. I have sent a validation to the CA and have not gotten a response after 30 days, I am going to send an estoppel letter next. Peace Out, TR "NIB HIGH FOOTBALL RULES"
