I have a Marshall Fields card that has been my one good card through all my credit problems and has a limit of $2100 (they are through Retailers National Bank). I'm wondering if I can convert that card over to a Target Visa and is the visa a card that can be used anywhere, not just at Target? If so, would they pull a report or would it just be like an upgrade?
I don't know about a Target Visa, but I know you can add a Target option to your MF card and it will be another account with it's own credit line. Will they pull a report? I don't think so. I've asked for increases and they only use your payment history with them. If you just want to be able to use your card at Target, that might be the way to go.
I do have that option right now, that's kind of why I was wondering if I could convert it to a card I can use anywhere. I'd love to spend $2100 at Target but..... LOL I guess I'm just looking for an easy way to get a regular credit card without an inquiry. My K-mart Cap One gave me a whopping increase to $300 limit so they don't look promising in getting a decent limit. I PFB them but so far no response. I take that back, I just checked my Cap One account and my limit is now $500 ($400 to use anywhere). I guess it's a start.
I called and no you cannot convert a fields card to a Target Visa. They said that you would have to apply for the card. They also said that they are not offering new target lines of credit on the Fields card. Again, you would have to apply for a Target card
I have had my Field's account since '88- and a Target sub-account since '92. When I applied for a Target guest card in '99, they did pull a CR, and converted the old Target sub-account into a guest card, same credit line. Same deal for my partner. Last fall I was in a Target and forgot my card, but I had my Fields card with me (go figure) ... it works, but the charge stays on your Field's account. As for their relying on your history with them ... they also pull soft inquiries every 6 months or so, so they know what you're up to I would apply for the Visa, then plead your case with them after you get a denial or huge interest rate (but I've been such a good customer for xx years...). Best of luck, mj
Target Sub ACCT?? Hi All - I have a Target Guest card - not the Visa. Just curious since reading these Marshall Fields posts. We don'y have MF out here. How did that Target internal acct work with MF card? Interesting. thx - dogman
Re: Target Sub ACCT?? I worked at Target during HighSchool, and they accpet the Marshal Fields Card, Daytons, and Mervyns, at least at that time... all the same company...
Re: Target Sub ACCT?? I got my card in '95 back when it was a Dayton's card and I had a measly $100 limit on it. I could use it at Dayton's or Target, same account number, same limit, same bill, same card, everything. For a while I was a big Target shopper so they continued to increase my limit many times without my asking, now up to $2100. I'm not yet in a position to get that limit on a regular MC or Visa so that's why I was wondering about the Target Visa.
