Can it be reported after SOL is up?

I have an charged off account that is 6 yrs old. It was reported as sold or transfered with 0 balance by OC. However, new owner did not report anything to CRA. Since SOL was already up, I'm wondering if new owner still can place neg TL to my CR?
In fact, I want to clear this account for a mortgage. I want to settle it, but I'm afraid new owner will report to CRA after the settlement? What can I do to avoid the account to be re aged which will hurt my credit score?

    Thanks!

Demand validation now. They can't stick it on the report if you demand validation and the TL isn't listed. Get your licks in first.
