Okay......I have a charged off account with Providian, the original amount was 300, now it is 700. A couple years ago they changed Providian to Emerge, then Emerge began sending me bills for the amount owed. I began making $15 payments only to find out that Emerge sold the account to a company called "Jefferson Capital" and now they are offering a settlement of $355, I spoke with one of their reps and she said that they would consider this payment in full and tell Emerge to remove all negative notations from the account on all 3 credit reports!
My question is....how can they remove negative history if they are not the original creditors? I asked to have the entire account deleted for payment and she said she would see what she could do. I think they are trying to "pull a fast one on me", but if were dealing with this, how would you handle it?

Well I am not sure about their ability to delete someone else's listing, but I would say that it is unlikely unless they have a contract with the OC allowing them to do this. What I would say for sure is to get whatever settlement you agree on in writing before doing anything. Without the agreement in writing, its your word against theirs.
