Ok, new guy here. I have an Experian report from November and it shows the following on an old Diner's Club card that I once had for business: Date Opened: 4/1998 Reported Since: 3/2000 Date of Status: 3/2000 Last Reported: 11/2001 Status: Charged off. $5,015 written off, $5,015 past due as of 11/2001. Status Details: This account is scheduled to continue on record until 4/2005. Creditor's statement: Account closed at credit grantor's request. Account History: Charge off as of 11/2001, 9/2001, 8/2001, 6/2001, 5/2001, 3/2001, 1/2001, 12/2000, 11/2000, 9/2000, 8/2000, 7/2000, 6/2000, 4/2000, 3/2000. Is this legal? Are they changing the dates on me by updating each month. All of my other charge offs only have the date when it went 180 past except for one and they have the charge off listed twice. I am working on gathering all 3 CR this week. I am very excited about the progress/success that many of you have had. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks, Tom
4/98 + 7 years = 4/2005 I don't see any error in math here. Citibank (aka diner) will hound your report like that forever, btw.
Thanks. Any idea how long they will continue to report? Also, I have other charge offs that I would like to have taken off. If they have not reported anything since late 1999 or early 2000, would those be a little easier to have removed? These would be accounts that have been sold once or twice to different CAs.
Sam did say that Citibank would hound you. It's charged off, you just have to worry about them getting a judgement before the SOL runs out. The other option is to negotiate some partial payment in exchange for a change in reporting status. I wouldn't contact them unless you are ready to deal. In regards to the other charge-offs, I would suggest that you dispute them with the CRA with specifics. For example, say the balance is incorrect - paid off. If you dispute as "not mine" then all they have to do is provide the CRA with your name and SSN. If you dispute with specifics, they have to provide more info and if they don't, the CRAs seem to delete anyways. Here is what I personally did. I disputed a bunch as not mine and about 25% dropped off. In the 2nd round I disputed incorrect info of those that were initially verified as mine and another 25% dropped off. Now comes the harder ones. My scores didn't increase because they were tradelines listed as included in BK7 but my report looks better. Scores in the low 600s.
