I did a friend a favor and got her a cell phone in my name(I know stupid). Well, long story short it went into collections. I have been negotiating with a CA to reduse the amount and delete the TL. My "friend" has areed to pay the money but she doesnt have the full amount($1700). She has agreed to write some type of letter(drafted be a lawyer) stating the debt is hers not mine. Would this work in getting the collecting activity towards me to stop? Could I get the TL deleted with something like this? Has anyone ever tried this? By the way I already sent in a validation letter and the already commited 1 violation(called same day validation letter arrived). I just want it off my reports. Any help with this would be appreciated. AJ
??? Dude. You got the phone in YOUR NAME. You are repsonsible for it. They will just throw that letter in the trash, which they should. So it is your debt by LAW, and there is no way you can get around it.
Quite true. I have to agree with that too, especially if their favorite pastime is telling a US federal judge why they did that instead of doing what the law demands of them which is obviously just about what they did when they called after receiving the demand for validation from the debtor. That is if it his demand for validation was in response to their first communication and was received by them within 30 days of his receipt of their letter demanding payment. And even more so if he demanded they contact him only by mail. That is also quite true.
