Hey there, I lurk on this board a lot but don't often post. I'm curious if anyone has had recent success with goodwill for late payments? I've got some 30 days in the last 2 years from Cap1, Target, and HSBC and it would help me greatly to get rid of these somehow. Curious if anyone has had recent success. I managed to get someone from HSBC to call me back and give me the whole 'it is illegal to remove them' argument. I was polite since I feel like Goodwill is my best hope to get rid of these. Also, does anyone know if I should see a good size jump once all the lates move past the 12 month mark? My most recent one is June of 08. Thanks in advance.
After the 30 day lates pass the year mark and move towards 2 years, which it sounds like yours have, you can certainly expect them to affect your credit score less and less. I still wouldn't expect to see a "big" jump at one time, but rather a gradual increase over that time period. Of course, that's as long as your payment history since then has been spotless. People are still having success with goodwill letters these days. It seems to just be hit or miss, so don't give up if you've been a good customer and simply had an "oops" moment that you want to clear up. You might get lucky.
I sent goodwill letters to Chase and CitiBank. Chase said they couldn't do anything, and Citibank asked for a CR for them to review. After I sent the letter I waited a week or so and then disputed the accounts. Chase then deleted the accounts, but I got a letter back from them saying they can't delete accurate information. Maybe they have to say that, but if you dispute it after they receive it, maybe it might work?? Worked for me with the one credit agency. I am now disputing the account with the other Credit Agencies and we shall see what happens. Maybe it was a fluke, but who knows. I am not complaining. So try that and see what happens. Sending a goodwill letter won't hurt. But make sure you dispute the account after they receive the letter.
Creditors or collection agencies are not obligated to remove negative listing on your credit report unless they are inaccurately mentioned. In case a negative item is listed on your report by mistake, you need to send in a dispute letter for removal of inaccurate information. I learned this from a income tax return charlotte professional who has really helped me in this crazy economy.
This thread is a little old, but wanted to add my 2 pennies. I sent Macy's a Goodwill letter about 2 weeks ago for 2 late payments 18 months ago. They removed both of them. So, I have a 100% on time payment history with them now. The only baddies on my report are now CA accounts, which I'm working on right now.
