I just got off the phone with the MORE team at Amex. You cannot convert a Blue card to a hilton honors. What they need to do is close the blue, and open a new hilton hhonors cc account. So it would show as a new account on my credit reports and the older Blue account that I have would show as a closed account. She said you can't convert with a Blue the same way you can with optima products because it is on a different system. I don't need any more new accounts on my credit reports, so I didn't do it.
Here's an option. You could convert the Blue to the Optima Delta Gold Skymiles card (there is an annual fee, but discounted to $30 if you have an AmEx charge card) - cash in on the Skymiles 10,000 bonus points and then convert the 10,000 bonus points to the Hilton Hhonors program for 20,000 Hilton points. Keep the Skymiles card and earn double Skymiles for every dollar spent at grocery/drug stores, gas stations, and wireless phone bills. The Skymiles points will convert to double Hilton points, so in effect every Skymile dollar you spend for regular purchases will turn into four Hilton points. The Skymiles basic card is FREE with an AmEx charge card but you get 5000 Skymiles (10000 Hilton points) instead of the 10000 Skymiles (20000 Hilton points). But the purchase ratio is the same: $1.00 = four Hilton points...
Marci, I like the idea, but I also have the hilton visa too, and I am content with that. Maybe in the future I might do your idea. thanks
Convering Amex cards Blue and Cash Rebate cards are on the new computer system. Most other Optima products are still on the old one, which is why it's not possible yet to convert a Blue to a Hilton. Saar
