Hi all. I am still here. Very busy with family stuff but I lurk on occasion. I just got a decline letter from First USA and went to Experian's site to retrieve my free report as I've done in the past. I can't find any mention of getting a free report if you have been denied credit. They used to offer that online. It's been a while, have they taken that off their web site or am I looking in the wrong place? TIA
With exp, you have to request credit report by phone. Then once you receive that paper report in the mail, you can use that file number to start an investigation on their website which brings up a current version of your report. You are not obligated to go through with an investigation of course. Alternatively you take a 30 day trial to credit expert. Which incidentally also gets you a file number which you can use same as above even after the trial period has ended. Here is the phone number, I believe you can do it all thru prompting and not talk to a human: Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, you may be entitled to receive a free copy of your personal credit report if you have been declined credit, employment or housing in the last 60 days, or if adverse action has been taken against you in the last 60 days, based on information from Experian. To confirm your eligibility and to request your free copy delivered by U.S. mail, please call 1 866 200 6020. (Note: 866 is a toll-free number)
