So in a nutshell my credit card bill is overdue. I have not paid for the month of May. I have to pay my credit card bill by the 12th of June which is $160 (it includes May/June). I had been out of work for almost a month, but found a job the week before last so I only have 8 days worth of work on my paycheck coming up on the 7th which after paying rent I will only have enough money for gas and groceries until I get paid again which isn't until the 22nd. Is there anyway I can get Capital One to let me pay them after I get paid on the 22nd? I should definitely have money to pay them back then.

Congrats on the new job, but Cap One isn't going to move your due date for you. If you put your gas and groceries on the card this month, would you have enough cash to pay the $160 by the 12th, and then use the float to allow enough time for your next paycheck to come through and cover the new balance? That may have sounded confusing, so let me know if you're not following me.

Hi Josh thank you for responding. I cut up my credit card over a year ago and Iam trying to pay the debt off. I hope to have it paid of completely by the end of summer hopefully in September. Its been hard since I was a waitress and wasnt making that much money since the economy is so crummy. Now that Im getting paid by the hour and I can work as many hours as I want I will be able to pay down my debt quickly. So are you saying that Capital One wont work with me?

If you've been regular with your payments, you *might* be able to get them to defer one payment, or you could pay the bill late & deal with a late fee (check your terms though - some CC's jack the interest rate after even 1 late payment). However, if you have a history of being late / missing payments, they're probably not going to deal with you.

Any chance you could talk to your landlord about paying the rent minus the $160 and paying the rest of the rent on the 22nd? My wife used to handle the payments and such for a property management company, and she said that if people had a legitimate request like that (and didn't abuse the privilege), she'd usually work with them.
