Do you have to be offered a balance transfer from Cap 1 or can you call & request one? If you can request one, are they pretty easy to get?
Hi Maer, I think Cap One has the best "standard" BT plan of any company. It is very easy to do a BT with them. There is never a BT transaction fee (this is their particular selling point), and I think the BT is counted as a purchase wrt interest rate. I did a BT back in March at my purchase APR of 12.9% and I'm about to do another one. You may want to call Cap One retention directly at 1-800-889-9939 to set it up. Those reps seem more knowledgeable and less prone to mistakes. Make sure you tell them the billing address *you get* to send the check to. I had a minor fiasco with them sendng a check to the wrong place - but Cap One was very nice about fixing things.
Marci Thank you so much for the info. I did call them directly. They said they occasionaly send out the b/t checks but they can't be requested. She did say I could do all the b/t's I wanted over the phone with her (as long as I had the available credit of course). I went ahead and did 2 because I really wasn't prepared. She said I could call back anytime and request more. I'm going to call back today for a couple more. Also, you were correct. No B/T fees, same interest rate as purchases (for me 9.9% WooHoo). I am paying off some 23.9% interest cards with this. I am loving Capital One right now!
