After all the posts about Cap1 on these boards and other I don't know how to say this, but my experiences with Cap1 have been an absolute pleasure.

1: They gave me an unsolicited CL increase from $500 to $2250 in my 2nd month with them after I closed out my Get Smart card that had been taken over by eMerge. I ma vey glad I got out of THAT mess before eMerge could hurt me.

2: Last month, I screwed up in paying my Cap1 bill - I tried to pay on line but entered a wrong digit in my bank account number. Needless to say, he bank bounced the payment back. cap 1 assesshed a $26 late fee. I called, explained the circmstances and without a fight thye reversed the late fee. I have been on line and verified taht it had been reversed within 24 hours of it being promised to me. I entered the correct account info and paid Cap1.

Those of you who have read my posts here and on oher boards know I am very litigous with creditors (I have 18 ITS letters outstanding right now and 2 summonses served) so I don't easily praise creditors.

Do I live a charmed life or is Cap1 getting user-friendly now?

All banks credit back your first late fee. Only if you call and compain about it.

Capital One charged and reversed the late fee, not the bank.

Cap 1 was my first card back on the road to credit recovery. I've had them since 97. My CL isn't huge, $3000.00 but they have raised it every six months with good paying habits like they promised. I was "hurt" when I saw so many doggin them when I first found CN. They've never been anything but awesome to me.

Cap1 sure is a strange bank... and for the most part they have been good to me however I have had a classic for years and the only increase I saw was $200 5 months ago, I called retention and they lowered the rate but no increase. I also have the Platinum with a decent line that is a year old so decided to just PFB and forget retention... so we shall see if they come thru otherwise it can keep the classic company in the sock drawer

CAPITAL ONE and DECENT won't go together until they start reporting credit limits voluntarily and with no funny business attached (ie reporting CL one month then reverting back to high balance the next). Until then, they're still POND SCUM!

One caution though even though they reversed the late charge they do still keep record for it and use that as a consideration for a lowered APR/CL increase..

Combining 2 accounts into 1 and closing 1 is a LIMIT INCREASE...so you have to wait 6-9 months for another limit increase!!!

You can call 1-800-889-9939 and ask "R" to remove the late/returned payment notation from their internal records, so that you won't be hurt when it comes time for account improvements.

I have to Capital One cards (Gold and Platinum) with pretty low limits (1000 and 500). I had a high rate initially 16.99 (with the help of this board I found Mr. Cooke's number at Capital One) and was able to lower the rate to 11.99.

I called Mr Cooke and requested a more competitive rate. He said he could do it in 2 steps. I had to make 3 charges on each card and they could be for any amount. He lowered the rate immediately to 14.99 and said after the 3 charges per card would drop it to 11.99.

It was reduced exactly as he indicated so I'm happy and will be happy if I can get an increase in the limit.

Soon as my credit reports show my (close to) correct credit limit...should be right around 3 weeks from now.

Cap 1 was the first to give me a card during the horrible FICO/11 charge off's on the credit report days. In 2000 it started with a $200 limit on now it's up to $2500. Even the few late payments I made never showed up on a credit report. I never had anything bad to say about them.
