Ok, I wrote to Cap 1 in May 2002 to close out my Cap 1 Mastercard @ 15.99% because I obtained a Cap 1 Carnival card w/9% interest rate. I received a letter from Capital One dated June 11, 2002 stating "as per your request the designated acct is closed" blah blah blah and a 1-800 number to call w/questions. I disputed with Equifax last month because as of today it is not stating "closed by consumer." It is showing open w/a zero balance. I just got my report from Equifax stating "this creditor has verified to equifax that this account has not been closed" and has left it as "open." I called Cap one AGAIN and the dang CS person could hardly speak English but she claimed I had a balance on it. When I told her NO I didn't she changed it to "this acct is in dispute" etc...NO I don't have a dispute on it cause there is NOTHING on it to dispute...my balance is ZERO! I was so mad! She said she'd put it in the system and designate it to close...I was like "WELL I DID THAT IN JUNE!" So, now she says to wait 2 days and make sure it's closed....Ok so I get to call back in 2 days again!!! Now, how do I get this reported right on my credit reports? Should I mail the CRA a copy of this letter from Cap 1 dated June 11, 2002 stating it's closed and if I do will they update the report? Or do I have to go thru Cap 1 AGAIN! UGH
You have a letter from Cap 1 stating the acct is closed right? Fax that to Equifax. They will update it within a few days. You'll have to do a search for the fax #.
WIFE GOT THE SAME DEAL...closed the account...EQUIFAX says that CAPITAL ONE SAYS IT IS NOT CLOSED... DISPUTED IT AGAIN PAID/NEVER LATE "ACCOUNT CLOSED BY CONSUMER" BALANCE $0 I will see what happens...
Yeah, the letter I have from June 2002 states my acct number up top on Capital One letterhead stating they received my letter asking for closure and they closed it out. I don't think they did it like they stated in the letter. I found a dispute form from EQ I had in my file, so I'm sending that along with a copy of the letter from Capital One stating it is closed now to Equifax. I'm hoping that will get it stated right on the CR. I would much rather mail it to them anyways since I have no access to a fax machine here. Thanks!
By refusing to close accounts they can continue to boast their claim as the largest credit card co. in the world, even though many of those accounts may be inactive. Kinda like stacking the deck. What a bunch of incompetants! Cap1 thugs
