Cap One New Tactic to Screw You?

I just noticed that my Cap One statement is now being postmarked in Seattle. It has ALWAYS been mailed from Richmond in the past. I live about three hours from there, so it only makes sense to mail it from there.

I wonder if it is another way to promote late fees legally? (Reverse coasts for statement mailings.) Perhaps those that live on West Coast will be now mailed from Richmond?

Not that it matters in my specific case, since I always pay online and may be closing the acct soon anyway if I can't get rate below 9.9, but I thought I'd point this out so we can see if it's a new pattern.

FYI, My closing date was 10/5, postmarked Seattle on 10/10, arrived in my mailbox on 10/16, due 11/5. Used to arrive about 5 days earlier when mailed from Richmond.

I don't mind trashing a company when they do something to screw us, but by your own post the bill arrives in plenty pf time to pay the bill on time. It's not like you're recieving the bill on Tuesday and the payment is due Noon Wednesday, like Providian has a history of doing. You got your Cap1 bill with 16 mail days (3 calendar weeks) to pay it.

    Flyingifr,

I agree that it's ample time to pay it, especially since I pay online. I was just pointing out that Cap One had added 5 days to the mail time which may impact others differently, depending on how long C1 "holds" the statements prior to mailing them.

I USE PAY ON THEIR WEB SITE--SAME DAY CREDIT WHEN I PAY BEFORE I LEAVE FOR WORK!!!

I ALSO GET AN E-MAIL THE STATEMENT IS READY...BUT I LOOK EVERY SO OFTEN ANYWAY...LIKE 4-10 TIMES A MONTH...

I only look at the bill for the "EXTRA" garbage that may show up in it...like NOTICE OF CHANGE IN TERMS!!!

does it really matter when they send the statement? You know when your statement closes and within a day or 2 when your payment is due. Pay online.

Of course, we're all computer literate and can do this online. One thing that bothers me a lot is how many people and organizations think that everyone is online. That is not true.

So I think NiceGuy was bringing up something that could affect those who can't look at their statement online or go pay online.

I know of one person who doesn't have a computer. He also gets paid only once a month. When he gets paid, he pays all of his bills. He has to be careful to keep enough to pay bills that come in between.

For a while he was always getting late fees (and lates on his report, which he also didn't know about). I helped him call and get his statement date changed so he would get his statement right around when he got paid. Adding five days may cause someone like this a hardship.

I know that he should expect it and have the money there, but trust me when I say there are many people who don't look at things like we do.

Yes it matters because the law requires they present the bill at least 14 days before it's due.

But in this case you still have more than 14 days to pay.
