Hubby was preapproved for what I think is Capital One's "subprime platinum" card. It's not the no hassle card.

Got the card today- only has a $300 limit. I mean, jeez Household just gave him $6000 in credit limits in January.

I've been thinking of PFBing Mr Cooke but the problem is my husband had 2 Cap One accounts back in 1999 that he had late pays on. We settled the accounts for 50% and moved on.

I was honestly surprised they gave him a card- figured he'd be blackballed forever like we are with Target!

Should I even try it? You don't think a PFB request would result in them seeing those old Cap One's and then closing the account? I'd just hate to have a "closed by credit grantor" on his report!

Maybe we should show 6 months of good history before attempting anything...

I would call the retention dept and try to have the annual fee waive to $29.50 if you have a $59 annual fee. I do because I recently opened some accts with them and they dropped the annual fee in half. Hope this helps. By the way, I dont think its a concern that you have a new acct with them on top of derogatory accts from Crap One. A relative in my family has a charged off acct with them and surprise recently was approved for a sub-prime platinum with them. I can see that it is obvious that they want business, because the company is not doing to well now, plus my family receives preapproval every single week from them. Hope this info helps.

I received one of those platinum card offers from Cap 1...I threw it away.

I have had an account with them since 07/99 and still haven't broken the $600 mark. I'm holding out for a clean TU so I can get a BofA.
