Rumor has it after July 31, 2002. Capital One will no longer offer consumers the ability to apply online for their products and will stop advertising for online applications.
I was just checking my junk email account and this email came from one of the credit offers sites I used to subscribe to many moons ago. "I just wanted to let you know that Capital One credit cards will no longer be available online after 7-31-02. Due to recent events they have decided to abandon their online efforts. So if you have been thinking about applying for a Capital One card, now would be the time to do it. Just go to the following page and click on the link that says "Apply Now for the Capital One No Hassle Visa 8.9%".
I'm suprised to hear this. Maybe Cap 1 is facing pressure as a "sub-prime" lender after the Providian and Nextcard fiasco's. A lot of sub-prime lenders no longer advertise on TV, I noticed. Sterling, Cross Country, Orchard...
