Situation: My wife had an acct. with Cap1 several years ago. She closed the acct. and sent in final payment. However, what she though was a final payment actually left a balance of ~$100. Just days after closing this acct. she moved cross country and never received anything from Cap1 showing a balance. Anyway, about a year ago she got a copy of her CR and found out about this account (balance had ballooned to ~$900 by then with fees & interest), so she called them up and paid off the full amount. So consequently it was showing up on her CR as a $0 balance charge-off. She has since opened another Cap1 account (a gold card opened in 8/00).

When I found out about this I wrote a letter to Cap1 through PFB and a few days later received an email from Mr. Miller. I called him up and explained the situation and also explained that she was a current customer, as am I (plat card opened in 7/00), and asked if there was any possibility of getting that listing removed. He said that since she had been conscientious enough to pay off the full amount and had a current account in good standing he would be glad to help clear this up. In fact, he suggested that instead of removing it he would have the charge-off removed and have the listing changed to R1 status - paid in full, since that would help her score more than having it removed. Well, that was about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Just today we received a letter from him stating exactly what he'd promised on the phone and letting me know that it might take up to 90 days to show up on all her reports.

Just thought I'd share the good news with everyone.
