I recently applied for the Capitol1 MilesOne card and was denied. After receiving the letter, I sat down and wrote a PFB letter praising this product and giving explanations for their denial. Mr. Cooke called the next evening saying that they will look into it and he would call back with an answer by the end of the week (this was Monday). By Thursday I had a $7500 card in hand with a fixed 9.9%.

Hi, I am new to the board and this would be my 1st post, but I do have to admit I have spent over 4 weeks reading and reading every single post, and researching through this board. WOW!
You guys are inspiring.. I started my journey to repair my credit, will post details soon..

But I was curious about this post on the Cap1 denial, and days later getting this card with a 7500 limit?

What were your scores, reasons for denial in the letter, etc? Just trying to figure out how Mr. Cooke's mind works, because I sent out a letter to Cap 1 thru PBF and he never even bothered to send an email saying "We Recieved".... Maybe because they know it was their mistake (talking billing, late fees, etc)..

Anyways CONGRATS on your new card, please post details...

And once again glad to be part of this WONDERFUL group...

yes, please share scores if you don't mind , and confirm if inquiries pulled on all three CRA's . Also, did you have any BK's on your report? what was the basis of their denial?

I have not ventured off into the Cap1 offers, still pondering my option, and wondering what "preapproval" offers they will send next...

7.99% ??? Does the rate really go that low? I am at 11.9% for buys and 19.8% for cash.

For the basic "no hassle" platinum, yes, the rate goes that low. For the "miles" card, it may not go that low. 9.9% for a miles card from Cap One is actually phenomenal.

    Marci,

Did you have to use planetfeedback to Mr. Cook to get the 7.99% ?

The Cap 1 website shows the lowest rate as 8.9%. Unless I didn't look hard enough.

P.S. Can you get the "miles" card when you are a college student like me? Or is there a high income requirement etc.?

    kerry,

I watch various internet banners for the "no hassle" promotions. One has been as low as 7.99%. I don't know if that ad is still being displayed. But, once I see an ad for a rate I like, I do contact the exec office for an adjustment.

I have not had the "miles" card, so I can't comment on income/student requirements.

I have to apologize up front but I don't monitor my reports as religiously as most people here. I disputed a few things when I first signed on here and got lucky but haven't wanted to put the time or energy into fighting something I'm responsible for. I have three collections on my reports; one utility for 76.00 that is about 6yrs old, two fines, one for 125.00 and one for 200.00 that are over three years old. (Mind you I am pissed about the fines, I had no idea the city could send me to collections for traffic related issues)
My scores are somewhere in the area of 660-680. The reasons for denial were too many open accounts and new accounts.

    marci,

thanks again for your answer. If you see my request to chat, please ignore it. Something came up and I have to get off the computer.

    bye

Om - Can you send the wording of the PFB letter? That can help me with BoA. BoA declined my visa application.

Others - Are there any other sample PFB letters related to cc denial?
