I was working at my desk at home just now when I received a phone call from "Capital First" (Caller ID said "Out of Area", which I rarely answer, but I was expecting a call and didn't know where they'd be calling from). Anyhoo, the woman goes on to say that "our records show that you've applied for credit within the last 12 months, and so you're eligible to receive a MasterCard from Capital First up to $2,500 for only an annual fee of $99...blah, blah, blah..." I smelled scam, but wanted to egg her on. She continued... "Did you still ive at the same address? What's your monthly household income? Do you have a middle initial?" I stalled all her questions--obviously desinged to put me at ease--while I typed 'Capital First' into GOOGLE. Much to her amazement, I started reading off this scam report to her, interrupting her spiel! http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff21937.htm What a hoot! First time a telemarketer has hung up on ME for a change! Beware!
YOU HAVE TO PAY THEM FROM YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT AT THE TIME OF THE CALL...THAT IS A BIG RED FLAG!!! "REAL" credit cards let you pay the ANNUAL fee on the FIRST bill...
Oh yeah, George, I forgot to mention this! "There is a shipping fee of $29.95 up front...", plus some other junks fees I didn't quite catch before I began reading to her from the ripoff report. Gotta love the Internet and a high-speed connection! It took just 2 seconds for me to locate the dirt on this latest bad-news-bear!
I am bumping this because I got 6 calls from them today and they wanted my bank info which I would not give until I checked up on them and boy I surely am glad I did.
Just as a caution, I wouldn't recommend giving any bank info over the phone unless I called the company myself even if the card had sounded like a good deal.
Any bank (that you are not already a member of) that requires your checking account number / information over the phone, is a red flag and a sure sign of run, don't walk, the other way.
Yep no way I would do it. A little added info since I had when people try and scam me. They business address is a mail boxes ect drop box. I call mail boxes and they said they are aware that capital first is a scam and the police had alreay come by and asked questions. I am calling the florida attorney general tomorrow and will file charges with their criminal intake division. When I called back to the number first capital provided they wanted my ss# which I refused. The guy would not transfer me to anyone and when I asked him if this was first capital he refused to say. If I have to take these aholes down myself so be it. The guy who called me a dozen times was from India and could barely speak english so I had to have him repeat himself. I asked him if he was from capital one and he said yes. You are going down people.
WORTH REPEATING!!! YOU HAVE TO PAY THEM FROM YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT AT THE TIME OF THE CALL...THAT IS A BIG RED FLAG!!! "REAL" credit cards let you pay the ANNUAL fee on the FIRST bill...
Absolutely! I have heard horror stories about people letting these crooks debit their checking accounts.
If you want a good laugh call them and ask basic questions like the persons name and even their business name. Or just ask if this is capital first. They will refuse to answer. 1-866-892-6018. Tell them you were offered a nice cc with a $2500 limit and a guy told you to call back and his ID #601. I cannot believe they are still running this scam with the police investigating them. Maybe ask them if you can fill out an application at their swanky executive headquarters over at mail boxes ect. hahaha
