I had a Capital One card in 1999 with a credit limit of $500. I lost that card and received a replacement card. Capital one is now reporting that I was late two times in 1999 which I don't remember. Anyway Capital one is reporting that I am late on the lost account number and the present account number which looks like I have two delinquencies. I called the infamous Mr. Cooke that everyone rants and raves about on here-oh he is a slickster-but got no help from him. He tried telling me that this was appropriate to report this 'delinquency on both account numbers. I disputed with the credit agency and it came back verified. Where do I go next? BBB? File a lawsuit? Can I ask Capital One to validate these late payments? This is really hurting my reports. Thanks, Phyllis
Here's my two cents worth of suggestions...Have you checked your old banks records (if you were sending payments by check) to see when these allegedly late payments were received? - Compare them with old billing statements that show due date, and that'll be proof enough if they were cashed before the due date. If you sent a money order and you still have the receipt, you can follow the same procedure. Even if you did an electronic transfer (whether it was pay-by-phone or thru the website [if they had a pay system back then] you could still check thru your old bank statements. As far as the dual card numbers/late payments, I'm not sure what to tell you.
