I haven't used my Capital One card in a loooong time. I got it when my credit was awful, but after several years of working on it, it's great now. CapOne was the first company that would give me a card, so it's years older than my others. I just got a notice saying that my card will be suspended for 60 days and then closed. The thing is, I would really like to keep it open for the history. The customer service reps that I called, told me that there's nothing that they can do, and the card will be closed and that I can apply for a new one. Yeah, right. It's a crappy card, why would I want a new one? I just want to keep the old one. I know that when I was actively working on improving my score back about 5 years ago, there was a man in the CapOne office that you could contact that could actually help you. Is there someone there now that actually can help people?
They say that they're closing it because I haven't used it in a long time, which is true. I used to be good at making sure to put some charges on it every few months, but I stopped a while back.
Unfortunately more and more credit card companies will do this. Why? Because they don't make any money off of you. You don't charge - they don't get any merchant fees. They might even cancel you if you pay your full balance every month - because they won't make any interest off of you.
