Today I received an insult after applying for Cap 1 Platinum Card(not the no hassle) with 0% APR until Feb 2002 and Fixed 12.9% therafter...anyhow the card came after 2 inq's(TU and EXP).....CL......300.00--I thought this was a joke as I already have a Cap 1 Gold MC opened Dec 01 with initial CL of 500.00 and Eugene got a call from me in July 02 about an Increase and I got it raised with little/ no effort so that limit is currently 1500(1,000 inc). Seeing that it was after 5pm EST I figured I would try general customer service before activating this new Plat MC. So I called 1-800-548-4593, and entered the card number and the VRU announced that this card has not yet been activated--it prompted to activate the card or to review the other options in the menu...so I reviewed and chose to speak with a customer service rep. I gave my new account information and explained that I was inquiring about a CL increase prior to activating this card. the rep asked me to hold.....so I complied and moments later a rep named, Andrew, answered who was already briefed with my situation...and he said on behalf of the Cap 1 Company I extend my sincerest apologies --that limit was meant to be a starting limit, but due to your exemplary performance on your Gold account, we will update your new credit limit on the card to 1,800. I re-asked to make sure I heard that correctly, and he said yes it would take a day or two to update(which is what Eugene told me in July) I asked if I had to call the automated line to activate and he said no he could do that for me as well. So I said go ahead, and I ceremoniously thanked him and advised that in two months this is the 2nd time I have had outstanding customer service at Capital One. He gave his close and we went our ways. I was just shocked I received a 1,500 limit increase just by asking--now my concern is was this the Exec Offices where Eugene works?? mind you this was after 5pm EST maybe perhaps this was just a customer loyalty department??? I guess I should have asked... I dont know, especially after this being after their August reformation I was still shocked, but somewhat provides me with the assurance they are still in good standings and have not had any problems with them ever. Wish I would have known about them beforehand when I started building my credit(1997 when I started in college years). But of course I do give much respect to this message board, as it has helped tremendously. Thanks, Jeremy
I have had the same experience....I had a platinum card issued in May 2002 with a CL of $4000!! (I don't know how...)Then i got another offfer in the mail in August 2002...I got the card with a cl of only $500.00. Called cap One and they immediately bumped the second card to $1000. Apparently, theor sups have overridding power versus a CL increase through the automated system, so it PAYS to be nice to them!
