I've had this card for 2 years now and refuse to pay a $29 annual fee for a card with a $1800 limit. I explained that I thought it was silly to pay that when I had other cards with no annual fee (and higher limits) and she volunteered to close my account. How nice.. didn't even mention transferring me to retention. I used to sing the praises of CapOne but apparently they don't want my business. I thought I'd always keep this CapOne card becuase of their great CS and the CyberRebate fiasco. I guess I could bug Mr. Cooke about the $29 fee but I'm not begging someone not to charge me 29 bucks for a card with a low cl and no perks. Last year I did.. but not this time. I love being able to say that I don't need them anymore. =-) The card was 2 years old last month - hope closing it doesn't damage my score much. My ratios will be okay, but I wanted to close my Providian card.... hate to close 2 in such a short amount of time, so I guess Providan gets a small reprieve, thanks to CapOne. Ozzy.
You contact contact Mr. Cooke, and he will most likely drop your AMF to $0. Either PFB him or call him at 800-955-1455.
Hi Mindcrime2 - Hi Ozzyburger! Ozzyburger, I agree - you should call Mr. Cooke and tell him exactly what you posted here. Mainly, tell him you were going to close Providian, but the Cap One Rep closed you without you really wanting that. He is very reasonable - and Ozzyburger, Mr. Cooke is clear that a customer with your record is certainly worth pleasing. He'll have a new card to you with maybe more credit or a reduced fee by next week if you decide to contact him. I'd ask him for a Platinum card - why not? Best regards - Dogman
See these idiots in CS don't give a crap whether you're a customer or not...they get off on offering to close your account...but before they do that get their name and IDnumber just to make sure that someone higher in the food chain understands what they did. It usually changes their cocky little attitude real fast
I had the same problem with them, and could not get retention to budge on the issue, Then there was difficulty on even getting them to agree to close the account
Cap One is growing by leaps and bounds. From retail banking to auto loans. They're writing more primary paper than they ever have. Negotiating fees with everyone would bog down the system. Also, it's probably easier to close an account than to document a fee waiver. Catch my drift. Call Mr. Cooke and have the fee waived. Or, upgrade the card to one that does not carry one. CardKid
