I have 2 capital one credit cards with $300 limits. I have recently recieved multiple mailings saying I have been approved for a "Prefered Platinum Plus" card, in addition to my 2 other cards. I have called and asked if they could increase the limits on my current "Platinum" cards, but was denied. Should I apply for this new card and cancel my other 2 if I am approved? I hardly use my current Capital one cards because of the low limits.

Apply, most likely you will be approved! Don't cancel any cards though.... instead after 6 months you can call capital one and combine your credit cards with the primary being the oldest or the best rate, whichever you prefer. I have done this over 5 times with them and they are great!

I have multiple Orchard Bank cards, do you think combining them will help credit? What happens to the one? Do they close it? I thought it as not a good idea to close any accounts that you have open and in good standing?

    follow-up question:

I have an old card that I'm pretty sure is permanently ineligible for being converted into a rewards card (I'm saying this based on conversations with the retention department and the executive department)

Suppose I'm approved for a new card -- a rewards card.

If I combine the new card into the old card, the only thing combining will do is cause the old card to have a higher credit limit ? Combining won't cause the old card to acquire the rewards program of the new card ?
