    Hi,

Can anyone offer an opinion. I have a small limit credit card with Capital one ($200.00. I have been past due in the recent past. I just paid it off and charged a minimal amount and I am going to pay that off as well. It is not showing up as an account on my credit report. It shows that I have one open account which is my mortage which has been in foreclosure. I had the loan modified but they haven;t adjusted the balance yet. I will call them tomorrow and see what the hold up is. My question is should I call the credit card company and have them report the account or is that going to make it worse, since I have been past due??????

    Thanks, Kerry

Suggestion: Call em' ask em' to report. Continue to use it for 6 months drawing and paying on it (on time). Then close it out and move on to another CA and do the same thing, so you gradually improve your credit.

If you have been past due, leave well enough alone. You don't need anymore negs reporting. Its odd that Cap One isn't reporting at all.

On another note - closing accounts every 6 months is not the way to build history. Opening and leaving accounts open, maybe charging a small item once a month and paying it off to keep it active will build history, but don't close them.

I agree with jlynn. Leave the Cap One alone. You're lucky it's not reporting. If it does, it will negatively impact your score.

And closing accounts can also hurt your score. Get a card, use it, keep it paid. After 6 months to a year, try for another card. Use them both and keep them paid. As you use them, you will probably get credit limit increases, which will help your score.

But a short history will keep your score depressed, and once you close a card it no longer counts toward your history. So you would always have a short history.
