I've got a secured capital one card, which I applied for back in October. Since then, my credit reports have improved dramatically. I'd like to apply for the unsecured classic cap one card, but am a little unsure that I'll qualify, even with the huge improvements on my reports. It wouldn't be a big deal to end up with another secured card - but was just wondering if I'll automatically qualify for the secured card if I'm denied for the unsecured one? Basically, I didn't want to apply for the unsecured, get denied and then have to go and apply for the secured one, putting two inquiries on my report. Thanks.
Capital One pulls ALL THREE reports. If you opened the account in October, then your 6-month anniversary is in April. You are due for an account review. When they review your account, ask for whatever you want eg credit limit increase, decrease of interest rate, refund of security deposit, etc. According to the experiences of those that have posted to the board, they have best results by emailing Capital One via Planetfeedback. Someone from their executive offices will get back with you and negotiate with you.
I opened a Cap1 secured card in June 2001. In February, I applied for (what I had hoped would be) an unsecured card on their website. They sent me a letter that they were unable to open an unsecured card for me, but offered a secured/$500 CL/$49 deposit. It was only one inquiry on EQ and EX... Then I PFB'd Cap1 and they doubled the CL on my existing card but wouldn't change their counteroffer on the secured card. Which was fine with me--I sent in the $49 and now I have two secured Cap1 Cards. Hope my story helps....M.
thanks for all your advice. I'm going on a long vacation in a month or so and it would be nice to have little bit more credit than my measly $200 secured card.
