If Capital One charged off two accounts of mine in 1998, can they keep changing the balance owed? Everytime they verify the account with the CRA, the balance goes up. This is the complicated matter I have mentioned before. I paid the accounts through Genus for 34 months, then stopped when Capital One said I owed the same balance as I did in 1999. I have sent validation letters, and am still waiting for a reply. Even if they don't have to validate, they do have to supply me with statements that I request, and proof that I owe this debt. So I guess my question is, can Capital One continue to collect on a debt they carged off in 1998?

Actually, the dates of last activity were in 1998, the accounts were charged off two months after I joined Genus.

A C/O signals that the lender's collection efforts were unsuccessful. So, no the balance should keep changing.

Did you send your validations CRRR? Do you have all the reports showing varying balances?

Yes, I did send the letters certified, return receipt, I received both back signed and dated. I also have several reports, showing the different balances.
