    Hello,
I'm a newbie to the board and have been reading the posts for about two weeks. Thanks to all of you who contribute because it has already been very helpful. I am now going to proceed with my first dispute letter. I opened a Visa Credit Card account with Capitol Pwr CU approximately in 1993 and found myself unable to pay about a year later. I then paid the account- though I do not have proof-- after they closed my account. I believe that the account is now past the sol. I would now like to seek deletion. My questions are:

Why does the account show: status: "current" when the account has been closed for years?

The last date reported states 03/01/2001, is this significant at all?

As this is a charge-off, I'd like a opinion on how to proceed.

    Thanks

Also, I'm getting ready to ask for a reduced payment forbearance on my student loans, will that negatively affect my credit score if it is granted?

    Thanks

How did you pay this account? I would assume you did so by check. If you don't have a copy of the check in your records you can ask the bank you had or have an account with to research that item and get you a copy of the check (get a copy of the front and back). You'll have to let them know approximately how much the check was for, approximate date, name of company on check, etc.

Also, you could dispute with the credit bureaus as obsolete...unless I somehow read your post wrong.

Thanks for your reply. I'll contact the bank today to get my cancelled checks back from 1993. Do you know if I call Cap Power CU, will I be inadvertently verifying the debt?

    Thanks

Please excuse my newbieness but what do you mean by "obsolete?"
    Thanks

In other words, does "obsolete" mean pass the sol?

I think Whyspers was referring to your date given as 1993. If that is the correct DOLA, then it is obsolete and shouldn't be on your CR anymore. If that is the case then you can request that it be removed as "obsolete".

Thank you. I will go to the creditnet library and write a letter to all three bureaus stating that this debt is pass the DOLA.

    Thank you for the clarification.
