    Hey all,
I am carrying a small balance on my Citi Home Rebate card and decided that 13.49% was too much to pay, so before I started having to pay interest at that rate I called up Citi tonight to request a rate decrease, telling them I'd rather keep the balance with them instead of hassling with balance transfers. The CSR sent me over to a rate specialist and he gave me 3.99% for 9 months on all existing and new balances. So hopefully my little story will help out anyone looking to pay down their Citi card balance or just to get a lower balance without the hassle and cost of conducting a balance transfer to another card.

    Cheers!

    -Matt

I'll second that. While Citi was not willing to work with me on a long-term (five-year) payoff plan on a CC, they did give me a 12 month 0% interest at reduced monthly payment plan, (We'll review my situation in 12 months.) I received my new bill today and the current payment due (original agreement always shows on statement, but I make a reduced payment) is now below what the reduced payment is!

I also had to work with CitiFinanial and there local offices are not the easiest to deal with, but eventually I got interest reduced to 40% of the original APR that reduced my payments by 1/2.

I had to call many folks, but eventually Citi did what was needed to still get some money and keep me out of collections. They did not wait for the account to go 120 days late or chargeoff. I think they have some very sharp folks who know that it is in their best interest to work with those who have some ability to pay. The greatest thing is that they sent everything in writing.
