    Hi All,

I came to USA about 3 years ago just as a tourist and faced to an accident and was taken to the hospital by 911 Emergency services. I didn't have any idea about the medical system in USA and didn't know they are charging unlike UK. I moved to California permanently with my family about two weeks ago and received a letter from a collection agency about that hospital bill which is almost 4000$. According to the letter they are going to inform to the credit agencies if I didnâ??t pay the whole bill at once. So I called one of the ladies on that agency and discussed this matter. The reply was same and I need to pay in full to avoid being listed in credit agencies. The trouble is I canâ??t afford that much of money right at this moment simply because Iâ??m still hunting for Job. Can I pay them small amount of money on monthly basis and ask them not to inform to credit agency. One of my friends told me that they canâ??t inform it because it is a hospital bill? Is that true?

    Thank you

    Green

Unpaid medical debts in collections can certainly be reported to the CRAs. If the CA is just collecting on behalf of the hospital, you may still be able to work directly with the hospital's payment department to pull the account from collections and set up payment arrangements. Hospitals are often much easier to work with when setting up payment plans, so hopefully this is the case for you.
