I have three charge-offs on my credit report from just under 5 years ago (stupid college days...). I have tried to dispute them off my CR, with limited success. At least one of them is still on each credit report.

I just pulled my credit reports to discover that "Cavalry Portfolio Servic" recently opened a collection account in Dec 2003, with a reported date opened of 06/2002! Of course, this dropped my score rather dramatically and I'm pretty pissed off about it. They have not contacted me, even though my current address is on my credit report. Also, since I know that the charge-offs are all more than 4 years old (as confimed by my credit report), the statute of limitations has passed, right? (Credit cards opened in NY)

What should I do about this one? Previously, I have only disputed charge-off accounts. What is different about a collection account?

    GRRRR!!

Just took a closer look at my TU report. Cavalry has 2 inquiries in the regular inquiry section on this CR!!!

I have done dv twice with these guys and so far no response. Same thing happened as you, just appeared on my report one day. One annoying thing about Cav. is that they have I think four different offices around the country.

Cavalry recently bought out a bunch of other companies and changed their name to "Portfolio Services." Their website claims they are NOT ca's but "debt purchasers." Hah!

Anyway, these guys are idiots. I've had an account show up from time to time, and every time I dispute it, it gets deleted...then shows up again after a few months.

I have requested validation three times, and they have not responded, despite verifying it with CRA's.

I pulled a report a month ago, Cavalry wasn't listed, and disputed something else. I got the results today and although the account I disputed is gone...Cavalry is back on there.

The CRA (EQ, Ex, TU) that put the TL back on you report with out giving you notice within 5 days owes you $1000.

I've heard this before, but wouldn't the account number have to be the same?

The account number they provided looks made up by Cavalry (1ASVS#####). If Experian deletes, couldn't Cavalry just submit another with a different account number? In this case, how would Experian know that it wasn't for a different debt?

By the way, I forgot to mention that this collection is only listed on Experian. Also, the OC listed is "Associate Credit Card Services", and I don't remember ever having a CC from them. "Associate Credit Card Services" are not listed anywhere else on any of my CRs.
