If you close a credit card account, should it still appear on your credit report? I had an AMEX account up until last July at which time I closed it. It still shows on my credit report, but status says "Account closed by consumer". However, it shows that I have 5 accounts, when really there are only 4 open accounts.

Should I be contact AMEX to remove this closed account from my credit report, or is this normal?

absolutely, positive TLs can stay indefinitely (or 10 years so they say) and negative TLs can stay 7 years. If anything is duplicated, you can certainly dispute it as a duplicate if you want it off.

by the way, you can dispute the closed acct with the CRAs and it will most likely be removed but BEWARE, when you dispute AMEX they don't like it and will most likely remove your other positive tradelines as well which may do more harm than good...just a FYI from my own experience.
