Under FDCPA, the letter would be the same. In writing, sent CRRR, dispute the account, and request validation in writing. What you would accept as adequate depends on what the likely issues might be. Is this even your account? Was the CA legitimately assigned or sold the account? Did you close the account, but they continued to run up monthly charges? Were you billed amounts in violation of your agreement, disputing it with the cell phone company, but they just sent it to a CA instead of adjusting your balance? Did you already pay or settle the account, but there is still an erroneous collection account floating from one CA to another?
