I don't believe that Sprint does the spending limits any more.

I didn't have to leave a deposit, my limit per month is $125.00 and the payment must be paid on the due date or the phone will be shut off.

You wanna know whats odd, I've had Sprint going on about 16 months now. Never paid late and sometimes I pay several hundred dollars in advance so I don't have to worry about paying a bill every month.

My credit reports are now totally clean and my scores are upwards 720's. I called Sprint customer care, which of course charges you because of the plan you are on and requested to have the spending limit removed due to my good credit with them.

The lady told me I would have to go into a Sprint store and have them do the credit re-evaluation.

Went into their store and had the manager re-run my credit to get off the plan.

Guess what?? Denied!! Had to stay on the spending limit plan????

What gives I said, my credit is perfect not to mention my credit with Sprint is A1??

He said he didn't know but only said they computer said, no.

I went home and checked all of my credit reports and found no credit inquiries for sprint?? None!

I called and asked what gives?

She said they didn't pull a report but their internal computer said, no.

I said please put me through to your cancellation department.... They asked why and I told them.

    I cancelled anyway!

Now have Nextel, I am happy that Sprint gave me a chance when no others would but now with my credit I have a right to complain and be choosy if I want to.

    They lost a good customer!

Sprint PCS uses a different credit bureau. It's called Lightbridge, which specializes in risk assessment for the telecommunications industry. If you're clean with the three big credit bureaus, but not-clean with Lightbridge, you can still be considered high risk for wireless phone service.

If your credit with Sprint is perfect, have you ever had a problem with another carrier? Pager service?

I sued AT&T Wireless recently, had a heck of alot of problems with them!! BTW, they lost!

How or where can I find this Lightbridge so I can order a copy of this report to dispute this information.

If they are selling or furnishing information on consumer then they are considered a CRA and all FCRA rules apply.

Thanks for the heads up, maybe this is the reason after all.

well than how come when I got sprint service they pulled a hard on Transunion ? Im pretty sure it was TU - either them or EX.

Btw I am so glad I was month to month with sprint, and didn't sign a contract. I was double billed for the first three months and their customer service just sucked. I've been with cingular for awhile now ( no deposit/no limit" and it's been great so far.

When I got mine, my credit scores was 400's. They didn't ask for a deposit at all, I just had to pay full price for my phone about $125. The spending limit just means that once your bill or current due is more than $125 the service will be turned off until payment that brings it under $125 is credited to your account. Can't help on the deposit part.

I posted the URL earlier, but it didn't come out right. Here is it again. Good luck on your search.

    One would think so.

Let us know how it comes out.

I can't answer that question. I only know what I know because my wife used to work in the telecom industry. I would guess that Lightbridge wanted more information. Maybe that's SOP, or maybe they did it just for you.

Awhile ago I had a cell phone with Verizon. I had used their prepaid service at first but found out that buying $50 phone cards every week wasn't much of a value.

They asked for a $100 deposit & pulled TU. My scores were in the 400's.

My husband, when he applied to Verizon, was told he needed to put up a $500 deposit. Same with Nextel.

I tried AT&T and Nextel a couple of months ago. AT&T wanted $700 PER PHONE and Nextel wanted $400 per phone. I wonder now if it was because I'm on that "mobile phone CRA" database as having canceled my contract with Verizon early.

For obvious reasons, I didn't go with them.

So, we just signed up last night with T Mobile. Put it in hubby's name= no deposit. I checked EX and EQ and no inquiry is showing YET. If they pulled TU I'll be floored because that is his worst report BY FAR.

    Contacted Lighthouse this morning.....

Yep, that's what it is an AT&T write off which was settled out of court with them.

They will send me my report free of charge and they said if I send them a copy of the settlement agreement they will remove my name from their database.

    It all makes sense now.

    BTW, they were very nice.

Nextel would require about $250 with bad credit. But I've been told that you don't need any down payment with EFX scores of 650+

That's a lot. When I was signing up, They told me the max they would ask for was about $250.. unless you're asking for international serivce as well. I guess it depends on who you ask..

    rackt3...

Yeah, $500 is a lot! ... Though I suppose this is what I get for screwing up my credit ...

(So, has anyone had luck in getting deposits back early? I wonder if I were to call NEXTEL & tell 'em one of their competitors is giving me a phone w/out requesting a down payment?)

This stuff can be so frustrating!
