Ch7 Repair - Do I need more cards?

I'm in ch. 7 repair. In one round, I've boosted my scores from ~500 to the 550-600 range (depending on how many inaccuarcies left). I'm still in disputing mode, but I want to make sure I'm not dropping the ball on getting new credit if necessary.

I would love to get a mortgage in ~ 6 months on a very modestly priced home ($100K in Iowa - I make $52K, only debt is $100/month student loan).

Here's what I've got for good accounts (in good standing, never late, not included in the bankruptcy) - do I need more?

Express Card (WFNNB) - made a small charge recently, paid off in full
Victoria's Secret Card (WFNNB) - ditto above
Student Loan in Repayment (US Dept. of Ed.) - current on payments

Also, I have a lot of old store accounts that I haven't used in ~5 years that are not showing closed. I'll try to get ahold of them to verify that they're open. If they don't specifically say closed but haven't been reported on in years, does a lender look at them as open or closed?

Thanks for all of the great info!

    donk,

I'm in the same boat. If you look up 'xhardcorex', you'll find that I prepared for chp7 BK and was able to get through it. All thanks to Creditnet. Even self-filed the BK. Saved over $400 in attorney's fees. I've learned a lot about credit from this site, and on my own I can say that CREDIT REPAIR WORKS! and.... secured cards work very well. Pre BK and of course, post BK.

This may sound obsessive, but I've just been approved for my eighth post-BK cc. (Yes, I DID SAY EIGHT....LOL!!) Six are secure and 2 are unsecure. Here's the list so far:

Fleet, Dec 2003 (right after BK), secure, CL: $1,600
Southern States Bankcard Assoc, March 2004, secure, CL: $800
American Pacific Bank, July 2004, secured, CL: $1,200
Merrick Bank, Aug 2004, secured, CL: $400
Orchard Bank, Sept 2004, UNsecured, CL: $300 [later boosted to $500 in 1 mo time]
Providian Bank, Sept 2004, UNsecured, CL: $2,000 [did an $1,800 bal xfer]
    Emigrant/First Nat'l Bankcard, Sept 2004, secured, CL: $500
Amalgamated [Gold], Sept 2004, secured, CL: $5,000
HSBC [in process...], Oct/Nov 2004'ish, secured, CL: $300

I've removed one nasty collector from the list (Liberty Collections Bureau of Altamonte Springs, FL) and I'm trying to remove NextCard (LOL!! FNB bought them....they have been a pain to remove. Very difficult & rude SOB's!!!!!)

After the above, I need to clean up all my student loans. Never late; however, there are like 15+ accounts where there should be two. Whenever an account was consolidated into my two big loans, it created another record. In Sallie Mae's case, it sometimes created two. Three accounts for ONE loan..unbelievable. Trashing my credit score.

After I've dealt with these, possibly two years out, I'm going after my biggest delinquents. Should be able to remove them by 2-3 yrs out of BK.

I fully expect the BK to be off about 4-5 yrs from the date of filing.

Circumstances beyond my control led me to file BK. Now my world is much better, thanks to creditnet. I want to help as many people improve their credit here. I truly owe you all something.

    Rob
