I had a debt that my insurance kindly decided not to pay with my dentist. I never knew about it because I moved. It was sent to collections but was still owned by the dentist. So I paid them, and cut out the collection turds.

I sent the proof to all 3 CRA's and the only one that refuses to remove it is Experian. They called it "paid/closedâ? But I never paid the collection agency, they claim it's been verified. And doesn't Experian by law need to remove a paid medical bill anyway?

How can I fight this? They won't let me dispute it online anymore.

As long as the creditor is verifying it, they will report it.

You said you paid the dentist to cut out the collection folks. BUT--did you verify with the dentist that they still owned the debt? If they still owned it and had only assigned it for collections, they should recall it from the collection agency, who should then remove it from your report.

But if they SOLD the debt to the collection agency, then the dentist no longer has a right to collect--that right belongs to the collection agency. At that point, you could just be out the money you paid to someone without determining that they were the legal owner of the debt.

Yeah, the dentist still owned it. Transunion and Equifax already deleted it. Only Experian is refusing to delete it. Some say i'll have to sue...or at least prepare to sue Experian in order for them to realize they are in the wrong.

I think maybe you can request for the "Method of Investigation". I believe there are certain provisions in the FCRA that allows consumers to request this. I am just learning about this method myself and I was hoping someone on this forum could help out...
