Hi all. This is, I believe, my first post. I've been lurking for several months & I've learned so much. There is something I've not clearly understood from all my reading and thought I'd ask before I send my first round of letters. We filed chapter 7 and were discharged in April of this year. Many of my accounts are showing charged off, balances due, etc. rather than included in br. My question is, understanding that I DO NOT want to send copies of my br info, it's my understanding that having these accounts reflect accurately as included in br will improve my scores, but will asking for this make it difficult for me to dispute them later and have them drop off altogether? In other words, will my asking that they be reported as included in br validate that they are mine if I don't send any backup documentation to this effect? Is there a better way to dispute these, rather than to ask that they be reported this way? Two more questions: 1) The credit report that I'm working with is a combined report run for me by a mortgage broker. Is this type of report adequate for my purposes or is there a benefit to ordering a copy myself from each of the 3 CRAs? 2) Once I start sending letters, is it acceptable to send multiple letters of dispute to a CRA in the same envelope to minimize cost of postage, or is there a benefit to sending each separately? TIA for any help/advice. Love this board! anewleaf
well, your just out of your bk, first off do not tell them that those accounts were included in your bk. regardless of what they post. if you do you have just verified those accounts for you and then they are with you for the long haul. my bk was nearly 3 years ago and i still have the same problem. however i disputed those accounts as not mine. and a few of them keep falling off as time passes. and yes it is a pain and time consuming, your fresh out of your bk so simply let things ride for the time being and always dispute as not mine, let them prove its yours. do not help that one bit. and its always best to work with an orginal from the cra
I used an online credit report site to dispute many of mine. Enough fell off that I was offered a credit card with $7500. available credit from a prime card provider. This was the most expedient way for me, as I didn't have time to chase them through the mail.
