I was recently in your situation. I called around to car lots and found out who pulled Equifax. I then disputed my collection accounts. Once in dispute, Equifax does not use them to determine your FICO, thus bumping your score temporarily. I was approved by WFS financial, if that helps. Good Luck.
Try your local Credit Union, DH has CCCS notations and an unpaid charge off and a paid collection and we got a 6.??% rate on a car loan.

I use letters and online diputes. If you dispute items online, wait a couple days until the show up as 'under investigation'. This would be the time that you would try to get that car loan. p.s. DH can be Darling Husband/Hubby but I have seen it used in reference to your spouse/significant other.

There is a credit union in Long Beach that a lot of dealers use. My brother got approved with a 550. It was 550 because of usage, not negs. The F&I guy told me that the CU is open minded.

Assuming this is for a new car purchase, http://www.eloan.com will quickly give you a quote and all the paperwork to bring with you. I did that, and then got the dealership to honor the interest rate that E-Loan offered. I did a $0 out of pocket on a new Cavalier with the $3,000 rebate and it was quite painless.
