Ok....i'll admit i was really stupid when it came to realizing how important credit is....I have two charge offs...can anyone tell me is it really possible to negotiate with the collection comp to get it removed if paid in full could they take off derogatory marks and if their not willing should i still pay them?? i'm told that my payment is their leverage i just dont to screw myself anymore then i am already. Isn't a paid charge off still not much better? My credit score is 427 i have no credit cards right now is the best way to bring up your points with a secure credit card?? any suggestions please. Thanks
HI! Before you do anything, you might want to find out if the CA's are legal to collect from you in your state and the state they are operating out of. For example, in Texas, the state requires bonding. I had a CA contact me and I checked to see if they were "legal" here in Tx where I am. They had not posted bond. I sent a letter I'd created about it and they immediately deleted and stopped contacting me. Let me know if I can help you with that. Not every state has requirements but many do..some for bonding and some for licensing!
elisa: I had a really old thread here about this and I just cleaned it up and bumped it up...it's called "NanaC's Notions"...I'm sure there's lots of others on it but I knew where this one was
HI! I so totally understand. In the thread "NanaC's Notions," I put step-by-step instructions. If you want to give that a look, then you can ask me any questions you might have and I'll be glad to help as much as I can!

i'm from California so it doesn't matter right?? the ca don't need to be licensed or bonded the ca are from VA and TX
HI! Yes, the one TX does need to be bonded in TX. You will want to email NWeston@sos.state.tx.us and give her the name and address of the CA ans ask if they are bonded? She's fast and you'll get an answer right away! VA doesn't have any requirements. Now, be sure to let me know what Ms. Weston tells you about the CA in TX. California has great state laws for collections so if the CA messes up, you'll get support with their state laws, as well
The credit report i have currently is from Feb so that's what i was going by....i was just checking something i got in the mail from the ca (providian account) in MN. Dont they have to be licensed and bonded??
You're in luck! Any person or entity which conducts collection activities in the State of Minnesota must meet all licensing and bond requirements as set forth in Section 332.33, et seq., of the Minnesota Statutes 1997. Licensing information and application may be obtained below or from: DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE STATE OF MINNESOTA 133 E. 7th Street St. Paul, Minnesota 55101 Below are shown the licensing requirements, application forms and fees for collection agencies and collectors Licensing - Non-bank Finance Companies Collection Agencies Here's the lawdog link with links to find out if they are legal or not: http://www.lawdog.com/states/mn/st1c.htm
