Hi, this is my first time to post, though I have been reading these boards for a few months while Iâ??ve been working to clean up my credit. Iâ??ve been somewhat successful, mostly due to what Iâ??ve learned here, but I still have one item that Iâ??m not sure what to do with next. In March 2004 I entered a debt management program and made payments to MBNA from then until August 2004 (I was already about 3 months behind but they accepted the agreement from ACCC). In October 2004 I received a large sum of money from a family member and was able to pay off almost all of my debt so I discontinued the ACCC program. I was not able to pay the entire MBNA balance but it turns out they charged off the account in September 2004 anyway. I still am not sure why/how this happened, but they are also reporting 120 day late payments from March â?? August 2004 so it appears they did not post the payments from ACCC. Iâ??ve disputed repeatedly with documentation from ACCC to the OC, the CA (who is no longer reporting this) and the CRAs. Before I do anything else, Iâ??d like to know if a creditor can legally charge off an account if payments were made for 6 months prior to that. I had about 6 other accounts consolidated with ACCC, and there were a few other issues, but nothing to this extent, and the other creditors that did report late payments during these months corrected them when I disputed.
