Newbie here so please be kind.

So we are trying to fix my fiances credit. Have paid off almost all collections except one. When I say we I really mean ME because he is a hot head on the phone and blows up before he accomplishes anything. I know its lame but, I would rather talk to them than have him ruin anything before he starts.

Long story short my fiances mother took out a card with Chase in his name without him knowing about it in 2004. She then left a balance of $166.00 on the card and quit paying. The last time she made a payment was July 2005. Recently looking at his credit the balance has turned into $1,700 and that amount was charged off. Chase claims the last payment was 11/2005 so technically the time it would fall of the credit report would be in 2013 sometime.

Since he doesn't want to mess with family and report her to the police or anything identity theft technically cannot be proven.

I guess what I am hoping is some advice on what to do from here. We have never received any letters from Chase because our addresses have never been on the account only his parents home address. Upon speaking with her she claims she has called and they told her the original amount was so small that she should think of the charge off as a gift from them to us.

We want to start a business soon and also buy a house and I know it would probably not be in our best interests to just let this fall off in a few years.

    Thanks for the help!

He needs to file a fraud report,he doesn't need to say who committed the fraud.and a police report.
