If an account is paid off and the company is reporting it as a charge off and this was 3 years back what should be the first step to get the item removed?
If you paid the collection you can go 1 of 2 ways: dispute with the credit bureaus and hope it comes off Or Try the ligitious nutcase series. Start with nutcase letter. You would have to do search using "ligitious nutcase". You come up with alot of threads but you will find it. It is the one developed by psych Doc. You want make sure you send it notarized and crrr. So it really looks official. Then if that doesn't work, use the Son of nutcase letter that I developed. Then use the follow-up to son of nutcase. I used these letters and it worked for me. I never even had it notarized. And On the Son of nutcase, I faxed all of the letters. I do not know how to post links to threads. If I did I would find it and send it to you. Maybe Psych Doc will read it and post it for you. He's really good at that, I am not.

Due to possible inaccuracies in these CRA reports, I must demand that the validation I hereby lawfully request be in the form of a notarized statement by a person with original knowledge of the debt as it was constituted and who can testify that the debt was incurred legally, was not subsequently disputed as a result of returned, faulty, or recalled consumer products, was not utilized as a profit-loss tax deduction during the period it may have been payable, and was not claimed as a loss with any insuring entity during the period it may have been payable. Please be advised that I am not requesting a verification that you have my mailing address; rather, I am requesting validation, i.e., competent evidence that I had some contractual obligation sans consumer protection encumbrance which incurred the original claims associated with this tradeline.
